A blank TV with a docked Switch 2 that still looks healthy in handheld is usually a path problem, not a “dead console” story. The hop list is short: dock generation, power brick, HDMI class, and anything sitting between the dock and the panel.
Start with kit generation
Original Switch docks and AC adapters are not a free upgrade path into Switch 2 TV mode. Nintendo’s compatibility notes are blunt: use the Switch 2 dock and the Switch 2 adapter for docked play, and use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable on the video hop.
Then collapse the hops
Soundbars, cheap HDMI switches, and long bargain leads invent failure modes that look like “Switch 2 HDMI is broken.” Direct dock → TV with a short Ultra High Speed cable is the control test. If that works, reintroduce one hop at a time.
Cable class vs marketing synonyms
Ultra High Speed is the certification name that maps to HDMI 2.1-era bandwidth. “High Speed,” “Premium High Speed,” and vague “4K ready” sleeves are not interchangeable when the dock is trying to hold 4K60 HDR or high frame-rate modes.

Room-length spare
Most UK docks sit within two metres of the panel. A short certified lead beats a five-metre mystery cable that passed a living-room unboxing photo. Keep one known-good Ultra High Speed spare — for example a 1.5 m HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed cable — so you can A/B the hop without waiting on a return.
Prove dock + adapter + Ultra High Speed direct to the TV. Everything else is optional decoration until that baseline is green.
